In New York the kidsmodern team scouted on the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) and we decided:
So far we have never seen so many news in the design for kids section in any of the international furniture fairs.
This marks clearly a new trend, that has got started by many small brands and was absorbed by established manufacturers like Thonet and vitra. They have had children´s collection for a long time but they have tended to be sidelined so far. Ducduc, offi and not neutral had the idea of introducing contemporary, modern and high quality products and are established now, but have been an insider tip before.
When vitra launched a big PR campaign about the reedition of the Panton Junior and the Eames Elephant, all of a sudden design for kids was in everybodys mouth. That helped smaller brands to get attention and, encouraged by that, many manufacturers announced, that they are planning to introduce furniture for kids soon. Fatboy is going to launch a new baby-line – which ist still top secret – after the great success of the fatboy junior. Ligne Roset and Habitat already presented a whole collection of kid´s furniture and magis unites a range of kid´s products of famous designers under the brand 'me too'.
