The "Treasured Trash" exhibition at the Design Tide Tokyo November 2006 focuses on the idea of design with recycled materials. The concept is to innovate designs for a sustainable world. The poetic idea behind it is to transform garbage and waste materials into a treasure. Nana Ishikawa, a japanese Designer from Tokyo, created the osaru - monkeys in Japanese. At the beginning is "ofuruyama" - the mountain of old clothes. A huge amount of used clothing is piled and creates a mountain. One by one, life is gradually breathed into them. The used clothes (=ofuru) become monkeys (=osaru). Nanas message is as simple as it is important: the mountain and the monkey become part of each other. We should treat the earth well, because we are part of it.
