In her work, Rebecca Katz combines her love for animals with a critical wit about the state of our world. Her juxtaposition of animals with inherently human text reminds us of the idiosyncrasies of our own human perspective. Some of Rebecca's work uses these juxtapositions to comment on the need for social responsibility; another makes fun of a celebrity obsessed culture, while also speaking to the desire we all have to be loved and lauded for who we are.
Rebecca's work revels in the wonder of our environment, the humor of language, and the need for greater collaboration and understanding between us all.
Rebecca Katz grew up in Baltimore. She received her BA in Art History from Duke University and her MFA degree in Printmaking from California College of the Arts. Rebecca lives in Washington, DC where she continues to make prints and manages the Database for Women Artists at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She would rather be spending all of her time on her art and with animals, or perhaps eating chocolate. Her work was recently shown at Pro Arts in Oakland, California.
